Tarek Zahed’s youngest brother has joined the Comanchero bikie boss in being charged by police over the 2014 murder of an underworld rival.
Abdul Kadir Zahed was charged by NSW Police detectives at Bathurst Police Station on Tuesday morning over the death of Youssef Assoum, who was found bleeding from a gunshot wound to his thigh and several lacerations to his head just metres from the entrance to Liverpool Hospital on December 11, 2014.
Homicide Squad detectives have been investigating Assoum’s death since and made a major breakthrough in late-August when they charged Comanchero sergeant-at-arms Tarek Zahed with his murder.
They have now also charged Tarek’s brother Abdul, who is currently on remand for unrelated charges.
Abdul was charged with murder and kidnap in company, with intent to commit a serious indictable offence being to occasion actual bodily harm.
The 37-year-old is the youngest of the Zahed brothers, behind Tarek and Omar – who were the targets of an infamous shooting at BodyFit Gym in Auburn in May, that claimed the latter’s life.
Abdul was refused bail and is due to appear at Bankstown Local Court on Thursday, September 22.
In a statement, NSW Police said the investigation of Strike Force Fairmount into Assoum’s death had been aided recently by assistance from Taskforce Erebus, the NSW Crime Commission and Victoria Police Echo Taskforce.
In addition to the Zahed brothers, a third man was last week also charged over Assoum’s death.
He remains before the courts on charges of being an accessory after the fact to murder, relating to his alleged efforts to attempt to destroy Assoum’s vehicle at Lansdowne by way of arson after his death.
