Sydney woman’s spine severed after allegedly being shot through ceiling as she slept

The lawyer for a man who is accused of shooting his girlfriend through her garage ceiling and leaving her outside a Sydney hospital has fronted court as more detail of the alleged attack was heard.

A Sydney woman’s spine was severed when her boyfriend allegedly fired a bullet through a ceiling and into her bedroom as she slept.

He then emerged from the garage where he had unleashed the attack, bundled her into a car, dumped her outside a hospital, and hid her bloodstained bedsheets, police allege.

Georgina Vlahos, 37, will need specialised medical care for the rest of her life after almost dying when her spinal cord, liver and spleen were severed in the shooting at her Condell Park home on January 12, according to a police fact sheet.

Police allege her boyfriend, 32-year-old Kamal Eljamal, knew exactly where Ms Vlahos was sleeping in her bedroom when he fired multiple rounds into the ceiling while in the garage underneath the room in the two-storey house.

It is alleged by police that one of the bullets pierced through the roof of the garage, passing through the flooring and through her mattress before striking her.

Eljamal then allegedly bundled Ms Vlahos into her car and dumped her in an ambulance bay outside Bankstown Hospital. He then yelled out to paramedics to help her before fleeing on foot about two minutes later, police facts state.

Dramatic CCTV footage released by police showed the moment Ms Vlahos was left at the hospital.

Police allege Eljamal later returned to her apartment and put her bloodstained bedsheets, pillows and doona into black garbage bags. He also allegedly removed a CCTV hard drive and his personal belongings from the home.

The fact sheet states police returned to Ms Vlahos’s house following the shooting and found seven bullet holes throughout the property.

Three bullet holes were found in the garage, two of which had allegedly been filled with an unknown filler in an attempt to cover the gunshot hole that injured her. according to police facts.

Eljamal was arrested at a Picnic Point home last Friday. He is being legally represented by high-profile defence barrister Talal Krayem and solicitor Bashaar Elkheir, who faced Bankstown Local Court on his behalf on Wednesday.

Mr Elkheir told the court that his client would no longer be applying for bail over the “domestic violence”-related charges.

He has been charged with offences including discharging a firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Police have also applied for an apprehended violence order on behalf of Ms Vlahos to protect her from Eljamal.

Ms Vlahos remains in hospital. She has declined to speak to police about what happened.
