Mum allegedly blows six times legal limit before school pick-up

A “heavily intoxicated” Sydney mum was on her way to school pick-up when she almost hit a cop car and allegedly returned a breath test reading almost six times over the legal limit.

Kirsten Samuel was charged with high range drink driving last week, after her allegedly erratic driving came to the attention of police less than 100 metres from her Baulkham Hills home.

Officers from The Hills highway command were patrolling the streets of Baulkham Hills on September 9, when the 43-year-old’s silver Toyota Camry allegedly swung out of a driveway on Conie Ave and narrowly missed a police vehicle.

Police pulled Samuel over and began speaking with her, when it “quickly became clear that she was heavily intoxicated”, it will be alleged.

She was subjected to a roadside breath test and allegedly returned a reading seven times over the legal limit, telling police she was on her way to school pick-up.

Samuel was arrested on the spot and taken to Castle Hill Police Station, where she was again tested, returning a reading of 0.269, which is almost six times above the legal limit.

She was charged with high-range drink driving and due to her “extreme level” of intoxication, had the keys to her car confiscated on the spot and her licence suspended.

In response to questions about the alleged incident, Samuel told the Telegraph, “yeah, no comment on that”.

She is set to appear before Parramatta Local Court next month.

It’s understood it is the first time she has been charged with a drink driving offence.

Samuel is yet to enter pleas to the charge.
