Police are investigating after a business in Sydney’s southwest was targeted in an overnight shooting, followed by a car being set on fire in a nearby suburb.
Officers were called to Haig Ave in Georges Hall shortly before 1.10am following reports of gunfire.
Upon arrival, police found multiple shots had been fired into an insurance broker business, Ak Insurance Group Pty Ltd.
No injuries were reported.
Police established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Shortly afterwards, emergency services responded to reports of a car fire on Kawana St in Bass Hill.
Fire and Rescue crews attended the scene and extinguished the blaze, but the vehicle was completely destroyed.
Police established a second crime scene at that location. The vehicle will be forensically examined by specialist police.
A neighbouring resident to the Community Broker Network, who wishes to remain unnamed, told The Daily Telegraph he was fearful once learning of the shooting but claims he didn’t hear anything despite being “up all night”.
“It worried me, we live near a school, cafes and all sorts of other businesses so when I woke up to hear what happened I panicked,” he said.
“It seems to be happening a lot more across NSW, where can you even live safely anymore.
“I live a few doors down though but I couldn’t hear anything and I’m normally up all night, so that was weird.”
As inquiries are ongoing, anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
