The Sydney boss of the Comanchero bikie gang is contemplating a move away from the city and its gangland wars as he becomes the heir-apparent to take the national presidency of the outlaw club.

Allan Meehan is in the box seat to take over as head of the club after the arrest of its boss Mick Murray and the near-fatal shooting of national sergeant-at-arms Tarek Zahed.

Zahed was considered to be the No. 1 prospect to replace Murray, who is currently in prison on remand and facing murder charges in Victoria, with little chance of being given bail anytime soon.

The hierarchy of the gang has taken two big hits with both Murray and Zahed out of action and many are predicting Meehan will fill the void.

Meehan is yet to be formally appointed president, with the final decision being left to the self-anointed supreme commander of the gang, Mark Buddle, who rules the club from where he is hiding out overseas – believed to be Cyprus at the moment.

A source close to Meehan said the rising bikie boss thinks the gang should be run from Melbourne while the courts determine Murray’s fate. However, the renowned hardman is yet to commit to the move, and is also keen to avoid doing anything that could be perceived as a sign of weakness.

A move south would distance Meehan from the tit-for-tat killings engulfing Sydney’s criminal underbelly, and would allow him to avoid NSW Police’s famed anti-bikie squad, Strike Force Raptor.

A bikie, who has known Meehan since he “patched over” to the Comanchero from the Cronulla Rebels, said he had earned a reputation as “pretty full on”, but level-headed enough to control some of the gang’s more volatile elements.

Meehan’s loyalty was, in early 2021, rewarded with a promotion to commander of the Comanchero’s small Canberra chapter after the murder of former president Pitasoni Ulavalu.

His success in stabilising that chapter led to a further promotion, just six months later, to commander of the Sydney chapter.

Meehan has been a close friend and trusted lieutenant to both Melbourne-based Murray, and Sydney-based Zahed, who stubbornly refused to leave the Harbour City in the weeks before his shootingdespite being warned there was a price on his head.

Meehan travelled to Melbourne in January to take part in the gang’s January rally to Port Phillip prison, which was a show of support for members swept up in the AFP’s Operation Ironside sting.

Meehan declined to comment on gang business, but in a comment which will likely ruffle feathers within Victoria Police, said: “Melbourne is a lovely city, though”.

In a recent Instagram post, after the shooting of Zahed and the arrest of Murray, Meehan wrote: “Bad times don’t last, but bad guys do!”
