A 12-year-old boy has been arrested after allegedly wielding a knife and making threats at a Sydney school on Friday, forcing students into lockdown.

Cambridge Park High School was locked down about 12.30pm after a student pulled out a knife and began waving it while “making threats” across campus.

It’s alleged the student walked through the school library with the knife, leaving students “terrified”.

It’s understood teachers at the western Sydney school ushered students in the library into a corner before turning the lights off and locking the doors.

“I had my daughter on the phone after running into the library to lock down saying a boy was running around with a knife and trying to gain access to them in the library,” one parent said.

“Pretty scary (that) we have to tell our kids find something in the room to defend (themselves) with.”

Police were called to the school and the boy was arrested and a knife seized.

He was taken to Penrith Police Station, a NSW Police spokesman said.

“No injuries were reported and there is no ongoing threat,” they said.

A NSW Department of Education spokesman confirmed the boy had “made threats” during the incident.

“Cambridge Park High School went into a brief lockdown today when a student made threats,” they said.

“Staff and police acted swiftly to ensure the safety of students. There were no injuries and the school reopened shortly after.”
