The father of a 22-year-old who allegedly stabbed his brother and mother in a domestic violence attack said the scene of the crime was “like a battle.”
Jackyy Dang was arrested at his Marrickville family home after police allege he violently stabbed his brother, Jackys Dang, 25, and his mother Mai Dang, 55.
Police allege he had been planning the attack for “some time.”
Just before 6pm NSW Ambulance paramedics were called to a home on Sydenham Rd to reports of a stabbing opposite Marrickville High School.
Crews found Jackys Dang with stab wounds to his neck, face, head and back and Mai Dang with a stab wound to her throat.
They were taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where he was listed as critical and undergoing surgery while his mother was expected to be discharged on Friday.
The accused’s father, Chung ‘Jacky’ Dang was in another room in his Marrickville home when he walked into his kitchen to find chaos.
“I don’t understand what happened. Everything happened in the blink of an eye. Because I am deaf, I could not hear the screaming or arguing,” he said.
“I came out [of the shower] and everything was like a battle,” he said.
“Because of the blood I was not sure who was stabbing who,” said Mr Dang.
Detective Inspector Ben Kennis described the scene inside the Sydenham Road house as “confronting.”
“A crime scene was analysed overnight, it took several hours. It was a quite confronting scene…”
“This is a very serious domestic violence-related incident. We take this very, very seriously.” he said.
Police will investigate whether Mr Dang was also an intended target of his son.
“The father was not in the room at the time and managed to run out the front of the premises and spoke to a witness who alerted emergency services.
“We’ll continue to investigate whether father may have been intended victim,” said Detective Inspector Kennis.
Police are investigating the motivation for the attack. The family did not have a history of domestic violence.
“In domestic violence related matters, sometimes there is no reported history and it is really a matter for the police to get to the bottom of why these incidents happen,” said Mr Kennis.
A neighbour called the situation “excruciatingly scary,”.
“It’s been a long time since something like this happened on this road,” they said.
Jackyy Dang did not apply for bail when the matter was mentioned in Downing Centre Local Court on Friday.
He was refused bail and the matter was adjourned until July 18.
