The man acquitted of accusations he was the getaway driver for the killers of Comanchero Mick Hawi is keeping a low profile as rumours swirl Hawi’s allies are out to avenge his death.
Those rumours were given fresh life when Yusuf Nazlioglu, who was acquitted of pulling the trigger on Hawi in 2020, was gunned down at Rhodes on Monday.
It sparked talk that someone was out to settle old scores.
But it appears Nazlioglu’s murder does not mean the man who was acquitted of being his getaway driver, Jamal Eljaidi, is next.
Eljaidi has lived a normal life since being cleared two years ago.
Sources said Eljaidi has remained in Sydney despite the revenge rumours following Nazlioglu’s death.
Called “the giraffe” at trial by his own lawyers because of his height, Eljaidi is understood to be working as a panel beater and living a lawful life.
Unlike Nazlioglu, Eljaidi had a limited criminal record prior to being charged as the getaway driver.
His only serious run-in with the police came when he was caught asleep at the wheel with a bottle of the drug GBL and was charged with being in possession of a prohibited drug.
Nazlioglu also had a raft of potential enemies outside of the Hawi camp due to his long association with the Lone Wolves. The former bikie is expected to be buried in the coming days.
He had only been released from prison last year and married his personal trainer girlfriend Jade Heffer after just three months of freedom.
