Driver with 385 demerits faces court

A rogue food delivery rider who shocked NSW when he clocked up 240 points since the start of the year is allegedly still on the road driving dangerously, and authorities are struggling to stop him.

The Daily Telegraph revealed the shocking record of the 24-year-old French national last month, who has been using an international driver’s license while working for multiple food delivery businesses across Sydney.

But staggeringly, it is alleged that despite being warned by police not to drive due to his lengthy record, the man continues to flout the law and has racked up another 145 points in the past three weeks alone.

“We’ve got him twice in the last fortnight for driving stuff, on top of whatever the cameras have got him for,” a police source said.

At Burwood Local Court on Tuesday where the man was a no show on multiple driving offences, his Legal Aid solicitor told the magistrate he was struggling to contact his client as he didn’t have a phone number for him, and had not spoken with him.

The prosecutor confirmed there was no mobile number on the police paperwork, and that there were multiple addresses listed for him.

When contacted about how the man was able to keep driving despite his shocking record, NSW Police said it was a matter for Transport NSW who oversee the demerit point system.

A Transport for NSW spokesman said the agency was “actively managing the case” alongside police and Revenue NSW.

The Frenchman’s outrageous record was discovered when NSW Police highway patrol officers, who had allegedly repeatedly given the man infringement notices for driving offences, applied to Transport NSW for his full record.

It is alleged that each time the man was stopped by police, he showed a French driver’s license. In addition, he works for multiple food delivery businesses who provide him with a different vehicle at the start of each shift, and they are registered in a company name.

The man’s downfall began on April 13 when highway patrol officers from Ryde, in the inner west, spotted him performing an illegal U-turn at a set of traffic lights on Lane Cove Rd at Macquarie Park, and pulled him over.

Officers issued the rider with traffic infringements for making a U-turn at an intersection with traffic lights, and unlicensed for riding a motor scooter.

A day later, officers spotted the same delivery scooter and stopped the rider for the purpose of a random breath test. Police said he produced a French driver’s license and was issued with a court attendance notice for driving without the correct license for a motor scooter.

The undeterred rider was caught again on April 26, this time on a different scooter, when he was stopped for a random breath test. He was given a court attendance notice to appear at Burwood yesterday, but failed to show.

The man is next listed to appear in court on June 18.
