A disqualified driver accused of a fatal hit and run in Penrith will remain behind bars on remand until late next week.
Lasaro Tavai, 22, was charged with five offences after he allegedly hit and killed a 40 year-old woman while behind the wheel of an unregistered car on Macquarie Ave, Penrith about 5.30pm on Thursday.
Police allege Tavai fled the scene before he was arrested a day later at 10.40pm on Friday at a home in the same suburb.
Tavai was taken to St Marys Police Station where he was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death, failing to stop and assist after an impact causing death, driving a vehicle during a disqualification period, and using an unregistered car.
He was refused bail and did not appear in Parramatta Local Court on Saturday where no bail application was made and it was formally refused.
His matter is listed for the same court on June 13.
As part of their investigation police released CCTV of the vehicle before Tavai’s arrest.
