A man who allegedly received an NRLW star’s allegedly stolen premiership ring has been charged after it was recovered at a Newcastle business.

Sydney Roosters player Millie Boyle issued a sad plea for help on Instagram last month after the Merewether home she shares with husband and fellow rugby league player Adam Elliott was allegedly broken into.

“If you work in a pawn shop in Newy and someone comes in with a number 8 premiership ring to swap for cash please let me know because it’s probably not theirs and they came into my house at night and stole it,” Boyle wrote.

The dual-international prop who once played flanker in the Australian women’s rugby union side won the 2024 NRLW Premiership in a showdown between the Roosters and the Cronulla Sharks.

The ring has now been recovered at a Newcastle business after a staff member contacted police on November 8, and a man was charged with receiving stolen property.

A 37-year-old man was arrested around 10am yesterday on Hunter St, Newcastle, and appeared the same day before Newcastle Local Court where he was granted strict bail to face the same court on January 9 next year.

Newcastle City Police District officers had already charged a 24-year-old Hamilton man with aggravated break and enter, break and enter with intent, trespassing, and dishonestly obtaining a financial advantage on October 16 over the alleged break-in at the couple’s home.

“Several items were allegedly stolen from the property including handbags, bank cards, cash, and a 2024 NRLW Premiership Ring,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“(After the Hamilton man’s arrest) police allegedly located and seized several items believed to have been stolen during the break and enter; however, the Premiership ring remained outstanding.”

The younger man was formally refused bail at Newcastle Local Court on October 16 to next appear at the same court on December 11.
