The family of a little boy allegedly stabbed to death by his father had not seen the three-year-old since his mum died almost two years ago, but desperately want him laid to rest alongside her.

The boy was in the full care of his father after his mother died early in 2021.

Her family found out about the horrible tragedy from media reports, more than 24 hours after the little boy was found dead in the bathroom of his father’s relative’s home in Sydney’s southwest.

The boy’s father suffered knife injuries, which police believe he inflicted upon himself.

The mother’s family claim the boy’s father cut off all contact with them after her sudden death from an illness.

They want the boy buried alongside his mum who was described as a “supportive, affectionate” woman who lived for her little boy.

Her close-knit family members were still coming to grips with her untimely death when they were struck with the gut-wrenching news.

“Her death left a bitter taste and now her baby’s death as well, it was the final straw, so much tragedy,” a relative told The Sunday Telegraph.

In a tribute posted six months after the little boy’s mother died in 2021, her own mum said she was having a hard time when she remembered the “last time I saw you alive when you arrived in the middle of the night by taxi and were very distraught”.

She spoke of the next day watching her daughter “walk up the street to the bus stop” and said she knew in her heart “that would be the last time I would ever see you alive”.

In the post she spoke of her daughter’s emotional turmoil and mental struggles.

“My baby girl you are always in my mind and tears fall for you every day,” the mother’s tribute said.

“I find it very difficult to even look at a photo of you to this very day.”

On Saturday, the boy’s father, 45, remained in hospital while the charge of murder against him was read out in Parramatta Bail Court.

His case was adjourned to August.

The relative said the family would try to focus on giving the little boy a farewell he deserved.

“No one wants to have to bury their daughter and their grandson,” the relative said.
