It is understood a member of the Alameddine crew was the target of an attempted execution outside a Sydney gym on Monday morning.
Several bullets narrowly missed children and gymgoers after the attempted hit outside the World Gym on Rowood Road, Prospect at 11.40am.
The man, who The Daily Telegraph understands was a member of the Alameddine crew, was entering the gym when several shots were fired.
He was hit in the foot with several other bullets entering the gym which has a creche attached to it.
He is currently in hospital in a stable condition.
Police said there was a significant danger to other gymgoers and children at the creche.
Superintendent Stephen Egginton, from Blacktown Police Area Commander, said: “It’s quite disgusting behaviour from these people that have taken it upon themselves to undertake a shooting at a popular gym with a creche attached to it.
“A number of the bullets fired from these offenders have actually entered the gym and posed a significant danger to people inside including those children.
“As we can all appreciate innocent children involved in these situations is absolutely abhorrent.
“We don’t accept that as an organisation and we will be pulling out all stops in terms of the investigation in regards to finding those responsible for this matter and bringing them before the courts.
“It is absolutely appalling behaviour that we do not tolerate.
“All links will be run down in this one in particular. Given the danger this one posed to members of the public.”
He said the victim was currently assisting police “to an extent”.
He added: “We are working with them at the moment to get some more information in terms of the injuries that have been sustained but it looks like a minor injury to the ankle.”
Superintendent Egginton said the public should be reassured in that it was “very much a targeted attack.”
On Monday afternoon police remained at the scene in force.
Multiple bullet holes and dents were visible on the door at the entrance to the gym.
Police evidence markers were also placed from the doorstep of the gym down the stairs and into the car park.
It is the latest shooting believed to be attributed to the ongoing war between the Alameddine and Hamze crime families.
Just earlier this month Billal Mahfoud, 21, was sitting on the patio out the front of his Guildford Rd home at Guildford when eight shots were fired from a passing car.
Mahfoud ducked for cover as the bullets peppered the house.
Mahfoud’s narrow escape came just months after his good friend and fellow Alameddine associate Shady Kanj was gunned down, and only weeks after the deaths of Salim and Toufik Hamze, who he also knew.
