Notorious murderer Daryl Suckling has scored another secret trip outside his maximum-security jail cell for a second attempt to lead detectives to the killing ground where he buried the body of one of his victims.

Suckling, 84, who is trying to do a deal to get parole from a life sentence, now claims he may have buried Jodie Larcombe, 21 — who he murdered in 1987 — somewhere else after an extensive search earlier this month failed to uncover any trace of her.

A massive team of police with forensic specialists and cadaver-sniffer dogs spent eight days from June 4 digging up 125 tonnes of earth over 900 square metres of an area along the Arumpo Road just off the Silver City Highway at Mourquong — about 5km north of Mildura — which was where Suckling told him he had buried Ms Larcombe.

“Despite the extensive search operation, no human remains were located,” NSW Police said in a statement on Thursday.

Jodie’s dad, Ken Larcombe, believes Suckling, who suffers from emphysema and lung disease, is taking police on a wild-goose chase but is grateful they are still trying.

“I reckon he’s taking them for ride. It sounds like a load of frog shit to me,” trucker driver Mr Larcombe, who lives in Mildura to be near his daughter, said.

“At least they haven’t forgotten Jodie and I am grateful they are still trying to find her over 33 years on.”

Detectives with the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad formed Strike Force Turret after Suckling engaged a solicitor and said he wanted to talk.

He had never previously confessed to the killing.

It is understood that when police took Suckling back to the area on Monday, he indicated other places further along the isolated Arumpo Road which leads to Mungo National Park.

When he was jailed for life, the Supreme Court heard that he had been secretly taped bragging about how he had buried her body and then with the intention of avoiding detection, he had exhumed it, chopped into parts and then buried the parts separately.

Locals still water the tree planted by Ms Larcombe’s parents as a shrine to their daughter a few kilometres along the road where it is believed she was last alive in his Landcruiser ute on December 27, 1987, two days after she was abducted from Melbourne.

Suckling was jailed for life in 1996 despite Jodie’s body never being found.

Police said there was no information that warranted a fresh search.

They have appealed for anyone in the community that may have fresh information to assist Strike Force Turret detectives in progressing inquiries to come forward.
