Police say no “formally recognised hate symbol” was detected in an alleged graffiti attack that sparked fears of yet another anti-Semitic incident in Sydney’s south yesterday.
Officers attended a unit block on Forest Rd at Peakhurst about 9am where a 37-year-old man was arrested and a crime scene was established.
Pictures of the scene show a symbol similar to a “triskele” or three-pointed swastika daubed on a roadway.
“Following legal advice, police were notified that the symbol was not a formally recognised hate symbol,” a police spokeswoman said.
“The man was charged with intentionally marking premises without prescribed consent, possessing a prohibited drug and breaching bail.”
He faced court yesterday.
