An elderly man has died after being hit by a car while crossing a road in Greenacre.

A beloved Sydney grandfather has died after he was hit by a car while crossing a road in Sydney’s west.

Emergency services rushed to Boronia Road, Greenacre, following reports of a crash around 6.30pm.

Officers attached to Bankstown Police Area Command attended and found Abdul Hamid Lababidi, aged in his 70s had been struck by a ute while crossing the road.

Mr Lababidi was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics but he died at the scene.

The 19-year-old male driver of the ute was taken to Bankstown Hospital for mandatory testing.

Mr Lababidi was well-known in Greenacre, with his family owning and operating several businesses.

A crime scene was established and police commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
