The name of a man who allegedly stabbed a policeman with a long blade following a street brawl in Sydney’s west can be revealed as an assistant commissioner praises the bravery of the officer.

A police officer is in hospital after he was stabbed in the chest and back with a 12-inch knife following a brawl and pursuit early Friday morning.

Constable Sasha Antic, 34, who is connected to Strike Force Sweetenham, was chasing down 20-year-old Musa Musa following a pursuit about 12.30am, when the man allegedly lunged at him and stabbed him in the chest and back.

Despite being injured, the plain clothed officer and his partner arrested Musa, before he was taken to hospital for treatment.

On Friday, NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Gavin Wood commended the Constable Antic’s “incredible bravery”.

“The (alleged) behaviour of the 20-year-old male … is abhorrent, and you can’t mince words here,” Assistant Commissioner Wood said.

“Sometimes you think you’ve seen it all, but for a young police officer to be out at 1am in the morning looking out for the community, doing his role and then suddenly he’s in hospital with two significant stab wounds. It’s beyond belief.”

The Mayayong man faced Blacktown Court where he did not apply for bail. His matter was adjourned to Penrith Local Court on January 17.

Police have charged a second man, Anau Marko Majok, 18, over the incident.

Majok was arrested at Parkwood St, Plumpton, and taken to Blacktown Police Station, where he was charged with stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm, custody of knife in public place and armed with intent commit indictable offence and affray.

Police will allege Major was one of the five men involved in the incident at Doonside on Friday morning.

Majok did not apply for bail and is set to return to Blacktown Court on December 5.

The stabbing followed an alleged street fight on Hill End Rd at Doonside, where a group of five men allegedly tried to break into a home, armed with machetes and knives.

CCTV footage captured the moment men pulled up at the property, striking the gate with weapons.

While police have not established why the men allegedly targeted the home, Assistant Commissioner Wood confirmed possible gang links and postcode wars were being investigated.

“The persons that we have in custody have some linkage to gangs,” he said.

Following the alleged brawl, police say the men ran and drove away from the scene.

A pursuit involving OSG, Blacktown and Mt Druitt Police, PolAir, and the North West Metropolitan Region Enforcement Squad began, but ended on Power St shortly after when the car crashed into a power pole.

A short time later, Musa allegedly stabbed the officer on Kilto Cres, Glendenning, while another two men were arrested after a foot chase with police.

Assistant Commissioner Wood alleged the men were found with upwards of six knives and machetes.

“They were big knives. Certainly bigger than what you would say is a kitchen knife,” he said.

“(The knife used to stab the officer) was 12 inches long.

“People who want to carry knives and use knives – it is abhorrent and we will not stand by and allow it.”

Police are still hunting two men involved in the incident, and have urged anyone with information to come forward.

As police continue their investigations, Assistant Commissioner Wood confirmed the injured officer was in “good spirits”.

“He wants to go back to work, which, again, is testimony for that individual, and I think the community needs to know that,” he said.

“And I think in this instance, the community need to be very, very proud of their police force.”
