The manhunt for those responsible for murdering two members of the Hamzy organised crime group is being complicated by the professionalism with which they carry out their hits.
Mejid Hamzy, 44, was gunned down on Simmat Ave at Condell Park on October 19 last year.
His death was followed by his cousin Bilal Hamze’s assassination on Bridge St in Sydney’s CBD, on June 17.
The deaths have been widely blamed on the ongoing war between the Hamzy and Alameddine crime crews, who have been linked to tit-for-tat shootings across Sydney in recent years.
Almost ten months after Mejid’s murder, NSW Police this week made another public appeal for assistance.
But as the CCTV footage they released of three cars travelling in a convoy ahead of the shooting showed, the modern day crook is often far more prepared than they receive credit for.
With cars and number plates stolen months in advance and put aside so they can be used for any job, their planning is meticulous.
Encrypted communication apps – when not compromised – also make them much harder to catch out.
But despite the challenges, multiple police sources this week insisted to The Daily Telegraph they are close to catching Mejid’s killers – and believe Bilal’s won’t be far behind either.
