Police will take no further action into the poisoning of pharmacist Hans Morkos to the anger of his family who say he has been left in a dire state after inadvertently drinking meth oil concealed in a wine bottle.

The father of two, 42, is out of a coma but still in hospital where he is in a dire state two months after he was admitted.

It can be revealed the 43-year-old unwittingly sipped meth oil from a wine bottle sent in a parcel posted from abroad in what police believe was a drug drop to HealthSave chemist in Annandale, Sydney.

The parcel that was not addressed to Mr Morkos and had remained unopened for several weeks when he opened it taking several sips before collapsing.

“He’s still in hospital but he’s out of a coma, the police have said they’re no longer investigating,” a relative said.

A NSW police source confirmed they have closed the book on the investigation ruling misadventure led to Mr Morkos’ “medical episode”, when he willingly, but unknowingly, drank the potentially deadly drug behind the counter of his chemist which doubles up as a parcel point for delivery and pickup.

“We’ve closed the case, it’s a case of misadventure, the man in question drank meth oil believing it was wine,” the source said.

“The family are very upset by what has happened, understandably. The parcel wasn’t meant for him, the drug was an import from abroad and was meth oil.”

Friends say the tragedy is Mr Morkos rarely drank and was addicted to the gym after breaking up from his wife and was dating again.

“He was in a good place when this happened, he was dating again and getting himself fit and trim after being quite down after the break down of his marriage,” neighbouring shopkeeper Renee Roth said.

“He’s such a nice man, a gentle soul, I’d ask him out often for a drink but he’d rarely come, he’s not a drinker.”

The pharmacy, located at 107 Parramatta Road Annandale, has since been placed into the hands of receivers.

Egyptian-born Mr Morkos collapsed on the floor of the Annandale Pharmacy on Parramatta Rd on January 31 after drinking the toxic potion disguised in wine bottles.

He was rushed to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a coma.

No one has been charged in relation to the drugs Mr Morkos consumed.

Methamphetamine is frequently imported in liquid form into Australia before it is manufactured into the crystallised variety and sold on the streets.

The chemist has since closed down and has been put in the hands of administrators. It is understood this is as a result of a court order due to his medical condition and not because of any company failings.
