A young woman who was allegedly stabbed to death by her partner inside her western Sydney sharehouse, shared multiple heartbreaking images to social media, just hours before her body was discovered.
Nunia Kurualeba was found suffering “significant injuries” — including two stab wounds — at her home in Kingswood about 1:40pm on Monday afternoon.
Her boyfriend — Jeremaia Tuwai, was charged with murder following a major police manhunt, in what officers say is the latest suspected domestic violence incident to rock Sydney.
Tuwai, 22, was arrested just after 7pm on Derby St, Penrith, almost six hours and two kilometres away from where police located Ms Kurualeba’s body.
He appeared briefly on screen at Penrith Local Court on Tuesday and spoke only to confirm his name.
Tuwai did not apply for bail and his matter was adjourned to September 6 for brief service, with a Legal Aid solicitor asking the court to endorse a warrant for his mental health to be assessed when he enters custody on remand.
Police confirmed at least one other person was home when the alleged stabbing occurred, and that person raised the alarm and called emergency services.
On Monday morning just hours before she was found dead, Ms Kurualeba uploaded an image to her TikTok account, with the young woman – believed to be in her 20s, appearing happy and was smiling for the selfie.
On Sunday afternoon – the day prior to her alleged murder, Ms Kurualeba also posted a picture to Facebook, taken in the driveway of the Kingswood property where she was found.
Ms Kurualeba – again smiling, was photographed wearing a black hooded jumper which appears identical to that worn by Tuwai in a picture he uploaded to Facebook also, on Sunday afternoon.
The image of Tuwai also appears to be taken in the driveway of the property where the alleged incident took place.
In the photograph, he is wearing a black and red Chicago Bulls basketball jersey- the same singlet described by police detectives on Monday afternoon.
The couple shared a number of images and videos together on social media, since December 2023.
Superintendent Trent King from Nepean Police Area Command said there were no AVOs in place for either party, and that police had not been called to the address previously.
He said Tuwai had no history of violence — domestic or otherwise.
Dozens of family and friends of Ms Kurualeba took to social media to share tributes for their loved one on Monday, including relative Lavo Jeli RoCobitu, who was photographed crying at the scene while being comforted by detectives on Monday evening.
“Our family here and abroad are still in shock and pain at the moment,” Ms RoCobitu wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.
Ms Kurualeba is the second to die in a Sydney share house in the past three weeks and the Kingswood woman’s death could be the fourth alleged domestic violence-related fatality within three days.
