Dianne Jolley told a jury between tears she felt “violated” when someone broke into her home and cut up her clothes, when really, it never happened at all.

“I felt violated … it was very hard. I was very concerned for the safety of my children,” the former University of Technology Sydney professor sobbed in The NSW District Court.

She even paused for a moment in the witness box, seemingly overwhelmed by emotion.

After a five-week trial, Jolley was found guilty on Thursday by 11 jury members of sending herself fake abusive letters, which caused her employers to fear for her safety in 2019.

The 51-year-old was also found guilty of dishonestly causing the university to pay $127,000 in security to protect her.

Jolley maintained she received threats after closing a Chinese medicine course in her department.

She had pretended one of her ‘stalkers’ planted a threatening note on the back of her yellow Suzuki Swift at her Seaforth home, which read: “I know where you live”.

“Someone came to my home and vandalised my clothes while my son slept ten metres away,” Jolley told the court.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal several pictures taken by crime scene police who investigated the case, supplied by the District Court, which show cuts through her clothes and patches strewn on the floor.

Jolley told the court $2000 worth of her clothes were either stolen or damaged by the ‘invader’, including a Cue designer suit, an overcoat, five pairs of underwear and six bras.

UTS reimbursed Jolley with vouchers for the items, which were never stolen at all.

She told the court she had hung all her clothes out that night, which had been in storage from her move five months earlier.

Jolley’s stalker story unravelled after a fingerprint was found on a threatening letter she sent herself.

Forensic expert Chapisal Kong told the jury Jolley’s DNA matched the print under a stamp found by a colleague in the staffroom.

Jolley’s husband remained by her side throughout the trial, despite the embarrassing allegations against her, which were proven, including that she sent herself her own underwear.

UTS did not respond to comments from The Daily Telegraph.

A statement on the website says Jolley formally resigned from her position in March, 2020, even though she was charged in November 2019.

Crown Prosecutor Greg Kimbell had argued the items Jolley claimed were stolen or missing from her home only added up to about $1300, and not $2000.

Judge Ian Bourke SC directed the jury earlier in the trial to find Jolley not guilty of nine charges including sending letters to staff, which he said could not be proven on evidence before the court.
