Parole authority orders Omar Haouchar and Tarek Zahed to remain behind bars
Two of Sydney’s most notorious crime figures will spend the festive season behind bars after separate parole authority rulings this week.
Two of the biggest names in Sydney’s underworld are set to spend Christmas behind bars after a busy week at the state parole authority.
Omar Haouchar had his parole revoked in the wake of being charged with conspiracy to murder a gangland rival outside a police station in the heart of the CBD in December 2023.
While he was granted bail by the NSW Supreme Court, the parole board revoked his freedom, resulting in Haouchar launching a legal fight.
His matter was part-heard this week, but in a statement a parole authority spokeswoman said: “The matter was stood over to January 20, 2026 to await outcome of court results”.
One infamous figure whose matter did have an outcome this week was former Comanchero bikie gang enforcer Tarek Zahed, pictured, who was released on parole last December after serving jail time for attempting to cover up evidence in the killing of Youssef Assoum back in 2014.
Zahed, who survived an assassination attempt at a Sydney gym in 2022 that killed his brother Omar, made headlines again in August after allegedly being involved in a brawl outside a Melbourne nightclub.
Victoria Police issued a warrant for his arrest in September, but when NSW Police arrived at his Sydney apartment he was nowhere to be seen.
Zahed was tracked down at Dundas, in Sydney’s northwest, in late October.
The state parole authority this week decided Zahed would serve the rest of his prison sentence, keeping him behind bars until May 13, 2026.
