One man has been arrested and another hospitalised with a head injury following an alleged street fight in Sydney’s inner west.
Police were called to the front of a tobacconist on Illawarra Rd, in Marrickville, following reports two men were fighting on a footpath about 4.40pm on Monday.
A witness said they saw one of the men on the ground before police detained the other on the busy footpath.
The injured man was taken to hospital in a serious condition while officers loaded the other – a bald, bearded man who appeared to be in his 40s or 50s – into the back of a police van.
He undressed and handed over his clothes to officers, who placed them in brown paper bags.
The man had been wearing what looked to be a sports jersey, along with a pair of shorts.
A police spokeswoman said no weapons were used in the incident.
“There were two people involved in some type of a brawl,” she said.
“One person is being treated and taken to the hospital, another is being taken to the police station.
“No weapons were involved.”
Multiple police units attended the scene.
A crime scene has been established around the tobacconist and surrounding stores as the investigation continues.
