NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb has acted swiftly to sack a police officer just a day after he was allegedly caught high-range drink driving.
The Daily Telegraph can reveal Commissioner Webb served a section 80 on the 25-year-old officer on Thursday, terminating his employment immediately.
It is alleged the officer had a blood alcohol limit of 0.243 – almost five times over the legal limit – when he crashed his Honda sedan into a Toyota HiLux that was carrying a 35-year-old driver and a four-year-old child in the back seat.
Police said the officer was off-duty at the time of the crash, which occurred about 3.30pm on Wednesday on Maxwells Ave in Ashcroft.
In a statement, NSW Police confirmed to The Daily Telegraph the officer had been dismissed.
“NSW Police Commission Karen Webb has dismissed a police officer who has been charged with high-range PCA following an off-duty crash in Ashcroft yesterday,” the statement read.
“The probationary constable attached to a command in the South-West Metropolitan region has been served with a section 80 notice.
“The 25-year-old man’s employment status with the NSW Police Force has now been terminated.”
