An off-duty police officer has allegedly been caught high range drink driving after crashing into a ute with a 35-year-old driver and a four-year-old passenger inside.
Police say about 3.30pm Wednesday, emergency services went to Maxwells Ave in Ashcroft, following a crash between a Honda sedan and a Hilux utility.
A NSW Police statement said the 25-year-old driver of the Honda was arrested after returning a positive roadside breath test.
“The man – an off-duty Probationary Constable attached to a command within the South West Metropolitan Region – was taken to Liverpool Police Station where a breath analysis returned an alleged reading of 0.243,” the statement read.
“The officer’s licence was suspended, and his duty status is under review.”
NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb said the incident was “very disappointing”.
“His (the off-duty police officer) employment will be reviewed,” Webb told 2GB’s Ben Fordham.
With the case being before the courts, the Commissioner said she was unable to comment much further, but when asked if she believed his time in the police force was limited, Webb replied “I’d suggest so”.
“(I can’t sack anyone) on the spot. I can take action to move that officer without the proceeds of court,” she said.
“(But I won’t because) we’re less than 12 hours into it.”
The officer is due to appear in Liverpool Local Court on December 14.
