NSW Police release CCTV after machete attack, stabbing outside Oxford Street nightclub in Sydney

Fresh footage shows men running from the scene as the victim of a machete attack outside an Oxford Street night club refuses to help police investigations.

CCTV released after Oxford Street stabbing

A young man attacked with a machete outside an Oxford Street nightclub is refusing to help police with their investigations, as new CCTV was released showing a group of men running from the scene moments after the horror incident.

The 25-year-old was stabbed in a “targeted” attack after attending an event at Noir Sydney in the CBD on Saturday, July 29, before a 35-year-old good Samaritan who came to the victim’s aid was also then attacked.

NSW Police have now released CCTV vision of three men who they believe may be able to help with their inquiries into the stabbing.

Surry Hills Crime Manager Joel Best said the actions of the good Samaritan likely saved the life of the younger man, who was not helping them with any information about his attackers.

“All information we have so far is that it was a targeted attack specifically on that person,” Detective Inspector Best said.

“He was released from hospital not long after, again very fortunate with the injuries he did have, but he’s not assisting us at this time.

“The 34-year-old male who didn’t know him and immediately came to his aid, and he was stabbed as well, it was very fortunate that 25-year-old man didn’t die.

“Certainly we believe it was a targeted attack, it would have been terrifying for people to be nearby and witness that. We’re appealing with these people who know the offenders to come forward and contact police, and help us.

“This is a terrifying ordeal and it should never happen on any street in Sydney.”

It is understood the victim had travelled from the city’s west into the CBD to attend the nightclub.

Witnesses told police they saw him being approached by a number of men – armed with knives – and stabbed multiple times.

The younger victim was driven to St Vincent’s Hospital by friends, where he was treated for his injuries.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the older man at the scene, and he was taken to hospital with arm and hand injuries.

The two men – who are not known to each other – have since been released from hospital.

The three men seen in the CCTV footage released by police are described as being of African appearance, about 170 to 180 cm tall, and of slim build.

The first man is shown wearing a dark hooded jumper, dark pants, and white shoes.

The second is wearing a dark hooded jumper, dark pants, and black shoes.

The third is wearing a dark hooded jumper, white shorts, and black shoes.

Police are urging anyone who knows the identity of the men or has information that may assist investigators to contact Surry Hills Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
