Menangle Road closed at Douglas Park after fatal head-on car crash

A man has died when a ute burst into flames after a head-on crash southwest of Sydney early Monday morning.

A back seat passenger has died after his car burst into flames following a serious head-on crash in Sydney’s southwest on Monday.

Just before 4am two vehicles collided on Menangle Road at Douglas Park, sending emergency services racing to the scene.

A ute travelling west reportedly burst into flames after the collision.

The male driver was able to escape, but his back-seat passenger was unable to be released before the vehicle caught fire, and died at the scene.

The man driving the eastbound vehicle escaped with arm injuries.

Crash investigation officers remained at the scene on Monday morning.

Menangle Road is expected to remain closed for some hours.

Road diversions are in place at Picton Road, and motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.

Police have asked any witnesses or people with information to contact CrimeStoppers.
