Two NSW Police officers have been taken off active duty after one jokingly pointed a gun at another in a social media post.
The image of the two officers, taken inside a police station in south west Sydney, surfaced on picture-based social media site BeReal, before being shared across the internet on Tuesday.
NSW Police confirmed the pair had been placed on administrative duties while an investigation took place.
“The officers have been identified and their firearms secured … an internal investigation is underway,” a spokesman said.
BeReal is a social media platform where users take one snapshot a day of their lives to share with friends.
NSW Police have strict guidelines on how officers can use social media, discouraging them from identifying themselves or others as police online and warning them not to post anything “that may bring the NSW Police Force into disrepute, or otherwise embarrass the agency”.
More to come.
