A man, 25, will face court on Sunday on numerous counts of wounding a person and having a knife after he allegedly attacked a man in a bar, a cab driver and a food delivery driver. Police have charged a man who allegedly assaulted a 56-year-old man in a licensed venue, then attacked a cab driver and a food delivery driver with a kitchen knife in Redfern.
After hunting the man for more than 12 hours, police arrested him just metres from one of the crime scenes on Saturday afternoon.
Just before 11pm on Friday night, emergency services were called to a licensed venue on Phillip St, following reports of an assault to a 56-year-old man.
The alleged attack had already left the scene.
Soon afterwards, at the intersection of Walker and James streets, after a 38-year-old cab driver suffered slash wounds to his chest and hand.
It’s alleged the attacker opened the front passenger door of the taxi and leaned inside, before allegedly stabbing the driver in the chest and running away.
Police said his motive was unclear and they don’t believe the attacker was after cash.
“There’s been no information to suggest he’s demanded any property,” South Sydney Police Area Commander Detective A/Superintendent Dean Johnstone said.
“It’s hard to say what this person’s motives were.”
Walker St residents helped the man as they waited for emergency services, with one witness saying the cab driver was “very shaken”.
Just over an hour later, about 12.20am, an alleged attacker tried to enter a public housing complex on nearby Morehead St but was refused entry.

It’s alleged he slashed the man, before again taking off.
Police arrived at the scene to find the food delivery driver had suffered two puncture wounds to his back.
NSW Ambulance paramedics were called to Redfern Police Station, where the man was treated before being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a stable condition.
The food delivery driver was released on Saturday morning, while the cab driver remained in hospital on Saturday afternoon.
Detective A/Superintendent Johnstone said both men had been through “horrendous” ordeals.
“It is very terrifying and it’s very concerning to us,” he said.
“These two gentlemen were actually performing work-related functions at the time of these attacks.
“These are two members of our community who have gone out there and are doing their job.”
A 25-year-old man was arrested about 2pm on Saturday after a public appeal for information about the attacks.
He was taken to Mascot Police Station and charged with five counts of wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, two counts of custory of knife in public place, assault occassioning actual bodily harm, affray and possess prohibited drug.
He was refused bail and will appear before Parramatta Local Court on Sunday.
