NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb has moved more than 20 superintendents in sweeping changes to who is in charge of local police area commands.
Superintendents are being moved in some of the most high profile commands including the City Metropolitan, Eastern Suburbs, the North Shore, Mount Druitt and the Inner-West.
“The extent of the changes in one go like this is pretty unusual,’’ said a senior police officer.
“Normally commanders at a local level are moved here and there, not on mass like this,’’ he said.
It comes just a month after Commissioner Webb made major changes to the police executive and other senior positions when announcing who would fill two vacant deputy commissioners spots.
“She is putting in place who she wants in key positions … many of the changes and appointments have taken a lot of people by surprise, especially the extent of the latest movements,’’ he said.
In the city the key appointments are the moving of Superintendent Martin Fileman from the Eastern Suburbs to boss of Sydney City with his spot to be taken by Superintendent Jodi Radmore.
Other key appointments are Superintendent Paul Devaney to North Shore and Despa Fitzgerald to the Inner-West. Steve Eggington takes over Mt Druitt, while Rohan Cramsie will take over the St George command.
In other changes, Superintendent Scott Bingham moves to Riverstone, Matt Scott to Kuring-Gai, Barry Vincent to Parramatta, Dave Waddell to Blacktown, Trent King to the Nepean, Rod Hart to South Sydney, Andy Holland to Cumberland, Mick McLean to Fairfield and Jason Box moves to the Wollongong command.
Commissioner Webb hasn’t been afraid to make big changes to her leadership team.
There were other departmental appointments as well.
Just weeks into taking the job Webb sacked Deputy Commissioner Mick Willing, her chief rival for the Commissioner’s position.
