The state’s new top cop Karen Webb has continued to stamp her authority on the force’s top brass with her top media adviser Grant Williams released from his contract earlier today.
Williams – a former Detective and executive producer of A Current Affair – has held the position for the past five years after being brought in by former Commissioner Mick Fuller.
In an internal email sent on Monday morning, Ms Webb thanked Williams “for his contribution” to the NSW Police.
“I wish to advise Mr Grant Williams, Executive Director, Public Affairs Branch will serve his last day with the New South Wales Police Force today, Monday 28 March 2022,” she wrote.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to wish Grant and his family all the best in their future endeavours, and thank him for his contribution to the NSWPF.
“Public Affairs Branch recruitment will take place in due course. Further communications will be sent later today regarding interim arrangements for the Executive Director position.
“Kind regards, Karen.”
Williams’ exit from the NSW Police executive follows Webb’s sudden axing of deputy commissioner Mick Willing before she had even been sworn into the job.
The sudden departures of both Williams and Willing caught many in the force off guard.
Webb is expected to announce the appointment of two new deputy police commissioners in coming days to fill the jobs left vacant by her promotion, and Willing’s sacking.
