No bail for Chom Chom over alleged involvement in fatal shooting of bikie boss Alen Moradian

Alen Moradian was gunned down in the basement of a Bondi Junction apartment block in June. Police allege two men arrested on Monday helped organise the staging of cars before and after the slaying.

A man charged over the alleged underworld killing of Comanchero bikie boss Alen Moradian will remain behind bars on remand until at least December.

Chom Manut Guam Chom was one of two men arrested during dawn raids at Greenacre and Liverpool on Monday, four months after Moradian was gunned down in the basement of his Bondi Junction apartment.

Chom is the fourth man to be charged with murder over the fatal shooting, following a lengthy investigation by NSW Police detectives attached to Taskforce Magnus.

A third man, Major Angelo Deng, fronted Liverpool Local Court on Monday where he did not apply for bail and it was formally refused.

Two other men were arrested and charged over the alleged murder in September this year, however the pair cannot be identified due to an order put in place by the NSW Local Court preventing their names being published.

Police will allege Chom and Deng, both aged in their late 20s, were involved in the staging of the vehicles used before and after the June 27 shooting.

Investigators discovered a Porsche, believed to have been used as the getaway vehicle, on fire in Bondi Junction a short time after the shooting, while a burnt-out Holden Commodore in Zetland was also seized.

Chom, who was represented in court on Tuesday by solicitor Talal Krayem, did not appear on video link from holding cells below the police station when his matter was briefly mentioned.

Mr Krayem did not apply for bail on his client’s behalf and the matter was adjourned to December 18 for mention in Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court.

Magistrate Shane McAnulty formally refused bail, meaning Chom will remain behind bars on remand until his next court appearance.

Police have previously revealed Moradian was one of the highest ranking members of the Comanchero OMCG in Australia but was “in hiding” at the time of his death.

The 48-year-old had been a major player in the city’s organised crime circles for decades, and had links to at least four of the 17 other murders that have occurred on the city’s streets since late 2020.

On top of his links to the bikie gang, Moradian is also understood to have sat on “The Commission” – a drug cartel created by the Comanchero to tax and control the black market price of drugs, chiefly cocaine and ice.
