The mother of the three young children who were killed in the Lalor Park fire has returned to her destroyed home as the man who allegedly caused the tragedy remains in a coma.
The woman was seen on Tuesday afternoon in the company of her parents after she was released from hospital where she spent days in an induced coma.
Wearing all black, the mother was driven to the Freeman St property – now burnt and damaged from the flames which ripped through the structure, and taken to a growing pile of flower tributes and cards opposite the driveway.
The trio took time to read the messages that had been written and left by members of the community, with the crying mother hugged and comforted by her relatives and police who had blocked off the street for the visit.
The grieving family spent around 30 minutes at the property, before being escorted by police away from the home about 2.30pm.
It comes as images of her happy smiling children emerged on social media on Tuesday.
One of the images shows a child beaming with his new prized possession moments after unwrapping it on his ninth birthday.
The boy sits proudly with his Thomas the Tank Engine set, accompanied by an adoring post from his mother.
“We are so so so proud of you and everything that you have achieved,” the child’s mother wrote on social media post celebrating her son’s birthday.
“Mum, dad your sister and brothers love you so much and think your (SIC) the best brother/son we could ever ask for.”
Other precious moments – like a young girl grinning for the camera as she shows off her sparkly unicorn face-paint; and a Christmas photo – paint a picture of a loving family home.
“Family, a bond like no other”, she wrote of her “babies”.
But in tragic circumstances, that bond was forever changed early Sunday morning when a five month-old baby girl and two boys aged six and three were killed in the house fire.
Police will allege Dean Heasman, barricaded them inside the home and attempted to prevent them leaving or being helped by first responders.
The mother and four of her children — boys aged four, seven and 11, as well as a nine-year-old girl — escaped, with reports the surviving children told neighbours rushing to put out the flames “Dad tried to kill us”.
While its understood Heasman lit a pillow on fire and threw it at his partner before a second explosion set the home alight, the search for answers is ongoing, with the 28 year-old still in an induced coma.
