Police are hunting two men after a violent home invasion in Sydney’s north overnight.
Officers were called to a home on Terrigal Rd in Terrey Hills shortly before 10.30pm following reports of an alleged break and enter.
The armed intruders forced their way into the home, confronting a 68-year-old resident and demanding his car keys.
When the man refused, a struggle broke out, leaving him with multiple injuries to his hand.
The attackers then fled the scene, dropping the machete on the same street before leaving the area.
Extra resources from Dog Squad and PolAir were called for an assistance.
The resident of the home was treated by paramedics before being taken to a hospital in a stable condition.
A neighbour, who wishes to remain unnamed, told The Daily Telegraph he was shocked as in the five years the victim has lived on the street nothing like this has happened, but what was even more surprising to him was the “reckless” nature of the crime.
“People are still awake watching TV at 10pm at night so I don’t know what they were thinking,” he said.
“I heard that the two burglars walked into the house and demanded the car keys, which I don’t get because it’s not like he’s got a Ferrari in the drive way there wasn’t even a car in view to pinch.”
“He must have told them f***k off because one of them stabbed him in the hand then ran off.”
A crime scene has been established and police are investigating the incident.
As inquiries continue, anyone with information or a dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
