Man dead in Woy Woy after witnesses tell police of ‘machete attack’

Police have now formed a strike force to investigate the stabbing death of a 41-year-old Central Coast man, after a machete attack police believe was “targeted”. Warning: Graphic images.

Police have formed a strike force to investigate the stabbing death of a man on a Central Coast street.

Police and paramedics were called to Macarthur St, Woy Woy around 6.15pm on Saturday night where they found a man unconscious on the ground with a multiple stab wounds, including a wound to his neck. It is believed the weapon used in the attack was a machete.
Officers did CPR until paramedics arrived, however the 41-year-old man died at the scene.

A statement from police said: “It’s believed the man was stabbed on nearby Railway Street, crime scenes have been set up in multiple locations, which will undergo forensic examination.”

“While the investigation is in its infancy, it’s believed incident was targeted and there is no ongoing threat to the local community,” a statement from police said.

The alleged attacker has not yet been located.

Strike Force Ambyne has been established by local detectives, assisted by the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.

Investigators are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or may have information which might assist police to contact Woy Woy Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
