An 11-year-old girl and a 45-year-old man have died after crashing down an embankment overnight, while two young boys - aged eight and nine - are in hospital.
Emergency services were called to The Bucketts Way, Tugrabakh – northwest of Forster – following reports of a single-vehicle crash about 3am this morning.
Officers attached to Manning Great Lakes Police District attended and found an SUV had left the road and gone down an embankment.
The male driver of the vehicle and the young girl died at the scene, and are yet to be formally identified.
Police had received reports of a concern for welfare for the man and three children around 1am, after they failed to arrive at a relative’s house, and started investigations.
Police said the two boys were trapped in the vehicle for some time, before being freed with assistance from NSW Fire and Rescue crews.
They were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to John Hunter Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police have commenced inquiries into the circumstances of the crash.
A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
