An accused killer is set to spend Christmas behind bars, having been charged with domestic violence-related murder after allegedly stabbing his father in the neck in Sydney’s west.
Police were called to Layton St, in Wentworthville, shortly before 6.30am on Thursday.
Officers say they arrived to find a 64-year-old man with a stab wound to his neck.
Paramedics attended but could not save the man — George Vaz — who was pronounced dead.
A short time later, officers arrested Shayne Vaz, 34, and took him to Granville Police Station.
Police said the two men and a 60-year-old woman, who was also at the property but was not harmed, were known to each other.
On Thursday, NSW Police homicide squad commander Danny Doherty alleged the elder Vaz had been stabbed several times.
“That’s another sad, domestic-related incident, we believe,’’ Detective Superintendent Doherty told reporters.
Vaz’s case was mentioned briefly in Parramatta Local Court on Friday, when he was excused from appearing.
He did not apply for bail, which was formally refused.
Vaz was therefore remanded in custody, with his case adjourned until January 9.
