‘Lucky Last’: Inside the Alameddine group chat allegedly plotting a Hamzy gangland murder

An extraordinary group chat from 2021 has been uncovered by police that allegedly details a plot by the Alameddine crime clan to kill their rival Ibrahem Hamze.

Never before seen texts from gangland war

A day after allegedly orchestrating the double murder of a teenage gangster and his innocent father, the ruthless Alameddine organised crime network had already moved on to its next target.

It was late 2021, and to that point in Sydney’s gang war, the Alameddines had dominated their rivals the Hamzys.

Mejid Hamzy, Bilal Hamze, Salim Hamze and his innocent father Toufik had all been shot dead, while the gang’s other senior figures — like Bassam Hamzy, Mohammed “Little Crazy” Hamzy and Ghassan Amoun — were all in prison, leaving the once-dominant crime group weak.

The only major member of the network on Sydney’s streets was Ibrahem Hamze.

The Sunday Telegraph can today take you inside the gang war between the Alameddines and the Hamzys like never before, revealing new allegations about how, with all of his other key family members dead or in jail, the Alameddines organised a plot to kill Ibrahem Hamze.

Among the revelations are dozens of messages from a group chat allegedly called “Lucky Last” – presumably a reference to either Hamze being the last member of his crew on the streets, or to this being the last time they would have to allegedly arrange a plot to kill him after several previous attempts failed.

The insight into how bloodthirsty Sydney’s gang war has been comes from documents tendered in court during a recent bail application by one of the alleged Alameddine gang members, Khaled Zreika.

Police allege alongside Zreika in the group chat were a number of senior Alameddine members, including alleged boss Rafat Alameddine.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Criminal Groups Squad last week issued an arrest warrant for Alameddine — who is living it up abroad in Lebanon — and his close associate John Ray Bayssari over their alleged roles in organising the Lucky Last plot to kill Hamze.

Police allege that before beginning the third attempt on Hamze’s life, the Alameddines allegedly offered their rival a truce.

When he refused to meet them face-to-face, the Lucky Last chat group was allegedly created to discuss how to “locate” and “murder” him.

Court documents state that in late-October, a message was allegedly sent by Rafat Alameddine — under the username “Tenticals” — to the group to let his associates know Hamze had refused to meet up.

“F**k this dog, we gave this dog a chance,” associate John Ray Bayssari — under the username Echo — allegedly said in one message.

“Haha walking dead man,” Alameddine allegedly replied.

The Lucky Last group was allegedly started on October 21, 2021 — a day after the double-murders of Toufik (left) and Salim Hamze.

Police allege in court documents the motive for killing Hamze was that he was in conflict with members of the Alameddines’ drug-running arm Ready 4 War (R4W), which raked in as much as $250,000 a week.

As such, police allege, the Alameddines sought to take out Hamze to stop his impact on their “overall business”.

One possibility allegedly discussed was to supply the assassins with “cops’ uniforms” and have them dressed up as NSW Police officers.

“This group name stays til he’s dead. LUCKY last,” Rafat Alameddine allegedly messaged the group.

“He sleeps soon with the rest,” Bayssari allegedly said in another text.

However a major issue that confronted the Alameddines in the weeks after starting the Lucky Last chat was working out the whereabouts of Hamze.

The group chat discussed the need to do “homework” on his usual locations, including family homes and businesses linked to associates.

Another point of discussion was whether Hamze would attend the upcoming wedding of an associate, and whether that would provide an opportunity to carry out the hit.

Court documents state Bayssari allegedly messaged about his desire to “finish this f**king dog”, before discussing how he would celebrate when Hamze was killed.

“Thinks he has legs to stand on, I wanna take his head off … burning me so much little flop,” Bayssari wrote.

“Yeah this flop cuz, we get him soon, I reckon he at parents,” Alameddine replied.

“You don’t know when this little rat dies, how happy I’ll be … on the water, tan, get drunk, escorts everywhere,” he said.

“Same he thinks he’s a mad c**t. He should be cry cry, and hang himself,” Alameddine replied.

Police now allege he turned traitor on his mate, and accepted $250,000 to shoot Salim and his father Toufik dead.

Abdelhafez is believed to be living overseas and, despite warrants for his arrest, has not been charged in relation to Salim and Toufik’s death, or the alleged plot to kill Hamze.

Court documents allege using Abdelhafez to find Ibrahem Hamze’s location was also discussed in the Lucky Last group chat.

As they allegedly plotted to kill him, the Alameddines allegedly discovered that Hamze was also trying to murder them.

“Ibby put a mil on any of our heads lol,” a message between Bayssari and Alameddine stated.

More than a month after beginning the Lucky Last chat, the Alameddines had still failed to track down Hamze.

Police allege that one of the members who was recruited to do “homework” on where Hamze may be was Khaled Zreika — username Shrek — but as he drove through Bass Hill one day, the Raptor Squad pulled him over.

Two-and-a-half years later, on July 4 this year, officers from the State Crime Command’s Criminal Groups Squad charged Zreika with one count each of conspiracy to murder and participation in a criminal group.

Zreika faced Parramatta Local Court on August 15 where he applied for bail before Magistrate Barlow, represented by his solicitor Abdul Saddik, but it was refused.

He remains behind bars on remand on those charges and is next due back in court on September 5.

Hamze remains alive.
