A Liverpool man will reappear in court after allegedly dousing his wife’s clothes in petrol and setting her on fire with a cigarette.

A man who police allege splashed petrol over his wife before setting her clothes alight with a burning cigarette will reappear in court on Monday.
Liverpool man Deepak Kumar, 36, has been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm after emergency services found his wife, 30, suffering burns to her left leg and hand.
Police will allege in court the man splashed petrol over his wife’s clothing about 6pm on Saturday at their Elizabeth Drive home, before setting her alight with a burning cigarette.
The woman has been released from Liverpool Hospital after receiving treatment for her burns.
Police arrested the man, before he was taken to Liverpool Police Station and charged.
He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Court on Sunday where he did not apply for bail.
He is due to appear at Liverpool Court for a mention on Monday morning.
Kumar has been placed on a strict apprehended violence order taken out by police to protect his wife.
He must not assault, threaten, intimidate or approach her.
And if released on bail, Kumar must not go to her home, her workplace or within 100 meters of her at all times.
