Knives, metal poles and a speargun in Simon Monteiro’s bedroom

Pictures of the bedroom of the man known as ‘the playboy rapist’ show knives, metal poles and a speargun. The Telegraph has forwarded the photos to authorities.

These pictures, which have been supplied to authorities, show every woman’s worst nightmare — the bedroom of one of the state’s most notorious rapists.

But the knives, metal poles and a speargun inside the bedroom of convicted rapist Simon Monteiro are not a breach of the strict supervision conditions placed on him by the NSW Supreme Court.

The Saturday Telegraph has obtained images taken inside Monteiro’s Central Coast home. He served more than 10 years in jail for a horrific rape and became known as ‘The Playboy Rapist’ thanks to his claimed links to high society.

The pictures show a hunting knife with a green handle on the floor next to a bedside table and a copy of the Buddhist meditation book The Experience of Insight.

A large kitchen knife is on top of the bedside table, which has a large metal pole leaning against it.

A second large hunting knife had been placed in the corner of the room next to a smaller metal pole.

Behind the door, a loaded speargun was propped against the wall, while two pitchforks, a metal pole and another large cutting tool were propped against another corner of the room. In another room was an axe.

The pictures have been forwarded to the Department of Communities and Justice officer who works alongside police to monitor Monteiro.

But possession of the weapons is not a breach of the 26 conditions imposed on Monteiro by the NSW Supreme Court in 2020 under a five-year Extended Supervision Order.

The conditions restricted Monteiro’s movements and ordered he report any intimate or sexual relationship within 24 hours, but there is nothing banning him from possessing weapons.

A NSW Police spokesman said the implements were not a breach of Monteiro’s ESO “however inquiries are being made by police”.

Monteiro could not be reached for comment.

On Friday night, Attorney-General Michael Daley requested the state’s law and order authorities give him “an urgent update” on Monteiro’s matter, a spokesman for Mr Daley said.

The 57-year-old, who was previously known as Simon Lowe, has been unrepentant over the 2007 rape of a woman in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

She told the court Monteiro initially was “the man of my dreams”, but he become possessive to the point where he raped her, pulled out a clump of her hair and threatened her with iron bars.

Monteiro has breached the ESO more than 10 times and was jailed for 18 months in 2022.

His case workers are regularly rotated because he verbally abuses them.

He has been charged twice with breaching the ESO in the past year, but released on bail. On August 22, Justice Ian Harrison granted him bail in the Supreme Court.

It has frustrated his family, with his brother Brett Lowe saying Monteiro is manipulating the court system.

“The judicial system (is) completely aware of Simon’s rejection of authority or any attempt to regulate and control him,” Mr Lowe said.

“Yet, the courts demonstrate they are willing to believe whatever … versions of events … he presents to manipulate the outcomes of his myriad court hearings.”

Monteiro claimed in court he was responsible for the care of their ageing father.

His family strongly refuted his claim and said he is using their father for money.

Prior to his 2018 release, Monteiro was refused parole multiple times because authorities believed he had not been rehabilitated.

A parole officer reported that Monteiro was “vindictive”, showed no remorse or empathy for the victim, and refused to participate in sex offenders’ treatment programs.

The officer told the court Monteiro was “belligerent, agitated, self entitled, abusive” and “failed to accept responsibility for his actions”.

In 2021, Monteiro was jailed for almost three years on 10 charges of breaching his ESO for setting up email accounts under fake names to contact authorities and other offences.

The NSW Court of Criminal Appeal reduced the sentence to 18 months.

Monteiro was charged again in 2023 with breaching the ESO for going to areas without approval and was released on bail.

Police also took an AVO out against Monteiro to protect a Central Coast woman, only for it to be withdrawn on July 2, 2024.

He was charged with breaching the ESO a second time last month over his interactions with his supervisor before being released by the Supreme Court.

He will face Gosford Local Court on September 20.
