A third man has been charged over his alleged involvement in the underworld killing of a second member of the feared Ahmad family.

Jamal Salameh, 29, walked in to Marrickville Police Station on Tuesday morning to report for bail on charges over to his alleged involvement in the assassination of notorious gang boss Mahmoud “Brownie” Ahmad, when NSW Police detectives attached to Task force Erebus told him they were also charging him for allegedly playing a role in the killing of Ahmad’s step-nephew – Rami Iskander.

Iskander was walking through the front door of his home on Knox Street at Belmore about 4am on May 14 last year when he was gunned down.

The 23-year-old’s death capped off the most chaotic fortnight in the Sydney’s ongoing underworld war.

It began with the assassination of Iskander’s step-uncle Ahmad killed in Greenacre on April 27, before Comanchero bikie boss Tarek Zahed and his brother Omar were shot at an Auburn gym in an that attack saw Omar being killed and Tarek shot ten times – including through the eye ball – but survive.

There is no suggestion Salameh was involved in carrying out the actual attacks in any of the murders.

After being arrested at Marrickville, Salameh was taken to Campsie Police Station and charged, while at the same time officers executed three search warrants at homes in Canterbury, Roselands, and Kingsgrove.

Vincent Bill Lambroglou, 42, was arrested last October over also allegedly organising and preparing the getaway cars used by the gunmen in the shooting.

He was charged with being an accessory both before and after the murder, participating in a criminal group, dealing with the proceeds of crime and possessing a prohibited drug.

Lambroglou’s wife Maria was also charged with dealing with the proceeds of crime on the same day her husband was arrested after police found $500,000 in cash during a raid on their Kyle Bay home.

In November police arrested Vincent Lambroglou’s brother Lee, 29, who was also charged with being an accessory after the fact to the murder, with police alleging he helped his older brother by giving him a set of car keys to an underground car park, which allowed one of the vehicles allegedly used in the murder to be stored.

Iskander’s biological father was himself a member of Sydney’s underworld in the 1990s, but from a young age he lived with his mother and her new partner Yasser Ahmad - the younger brother of “Brownie” Ahmad.

Since late-2020 there have been a total of 16 people killed in murders police allege are linked to an ongoing underworld war.
