Husband of woman stabbed on Dover Heights doorstep faces gun charges

In a bizarre twist, the husband of a woman allegedly stabbed at her Dover Heights home has been hit with gun charges.

The husband of a woman allegedly stabbed inside her Dover Heights home has been charged with possessing a shortened gun.

He was charged with four weapon and ammunition offences after police allegedly found an unauthorised firearm inside his $4.5 million home.

In a bizarre twist, the gun was allegedly uncovered by police while they were searching his property after his wife was involved in an unrelated violent stabbing last month.

The wife was home alone on August 8 when family friend and real estate agent Matthew Brian Ramsay, 46, allegedly stabbed her in the chest with a 20cm knife.

Ramsay was charged with wounding with intent to murder.

The Daily Telegraph has been told that while the wife was being treated in St Vincent’s Hospital for a stab wound to her chest, police examining the crime scene allegedly discovered a gun and ammunition.

The husband was charged with possessing a shortened firearm, possessing ammunition without a licence, not keeping a firearm safely and possessing an unregistered firearm.

He will face Waverley Local Court on October 11.

At the time of his wife’s alleged attack, the husband told reporters the incident was “all a bit weird”

A bail hearing for Ramsay earlier this month was told he had been suffering “significant mental health issues” for years and had consumed three times the recommended dose of Valium before going to the couple's house.

Court documents revealed that after allegedly stabbing the wife, Ramsay swung the blade a second time, but it did not make contact with her.

A violent struggle ensured before the wife managed to run out onto the street and scream for help, the court heard.

The court was told Ramsay, a father-of-one, was captured on bodycam after his arrest telling police: ‘I didn’t mean to hurt her, I just meant to scare her’.

Ramsay was given strict bail, provided he stay at a rehabilitation centre in Port Stephens and receive treatment for alcohol and mental health issues.

The husband did not respond to The Daily Telegraph’s request for comment.
