The identity and credentials of a Western Sydney doctor were stolen by a major crime clan in an elaborate scheme to make fake Covid-19 vaccination certificates for underworld figures, it can be revealed.
NSW Police have been investigating the use of fake certificates by crime networks, including the Alameddine and Hamzy families.
Following that investigation, Jeanette Jeske, whose son Trent Jeske is allegedly a member of the Alameddine crime clan, was this week arrested for allegedly being in possession of a fake vaccination certificate which she used to keep her job as an office worker at Plumpton Public School.
There is no suggestion Ms Jeske was involved in the identity theft of the doctor’s details or involved in any way with the crime networks. She has pleaded not guilty.
Police sources said they had initially investigated whether the doctor may have been knowingly involved in the rort, before they realised he was a victim.
NSW Police Criminal Groups Squad Commander Grant Taylor said he was at a loss to explain the thinking behind requiring a fake vaccine certificate.
“They don’t obey the normal due process of following rules and this is no exception,” Det Supt Taylor said.
“It’s quite common to see organised crime networks flouting any and every rule of law, but it’s a mystery as to why they were so defiant in regards to why they did not want to get vaccinated.
“There was evidence throughout Covid (lockdown) that they were not abiding by the restrictions. That was quite clear from our many different interactions with them, when we were finding them out on the streets and not inside their homes.”
Police sources said the high number of crime figures who were technically unemployed means many would receive no real benefit from having a fake certificate.
The Daily Telegraph understands one of the individuals who chose not to have a Covid-19 vaccination was exiled Alameddine figure Masood Zakaria.
That is despite him having to fight for life in hospital after contracting the virus.
“Many of them were really, really sick, but he (Zakaria) was nearly in Rookwood (Cemetery),” a source said.
“You’d think that would have been a wake-up call for them to get vaccinated, but they just love breaking any rule they can.”
