“Anyone with a hit on their head makes sure they don’t have a routine,” one Sydney gangster says in light of Comanchero heavyweight Tarek Zahed and his brother, Omar, being gunned down after working out at the Bodyfit gym in Auburn.
“But Tarek f----d it, the dumb c--- said he was going to gym last night, like he did the same time the night before, the night before and the nights before,” the source said.
Tarek Zahed, 41, was blasted with 10 bullets in the head, body and legs in the foyer of Bodyfit gym on Tuesday night and is fighting for survival in hospital. His brother, Omar, 39, went into cardiac arrest and died at the scene after being shot multiple times.
“The boys in the gym started to see Tarek in the gym every night at a certain time … boom,” the underworld source said.
“He was punctual, he had a routine, the guys who took him out knew exactly where and when to get him.”
“Gyms are perfect for hits – you’re not armed, you drive there without weapons in case the cops pull you over, you’re an easy target.”
Gyms have in recent years become the focal point for criminal hits, but assassins will often follow targets to any places of routine where they will then plot to kill.
Comanchero boss Mick Hawi was ambushed in daylight after he finished a workout at Fitness First in Rockdale in February 2018.
Alameddine associate Murat Gulasi was also gunned down at World Gym at precisely 8.40am in Prospect on November 29 but miraculously survived the attack.
“It’s not just gyms, it’s wherever anyone has a routine when they’ve got drama in their life – if you go to McDonald’s every day at 10am, you’ll get shot at McDonald’s at 10am,” the underworld source said.
“You never wake up and do the same thing twice in a row, unless you’re asking to get knocked.”
