Two men allegedly kicked a lying man in the head multiple times during a road-rage dust up in Liverpool after he pulled a gun on them, it can be revealed.
The details surrounding the gunpoint incident, highlighted by police this week, have been disclosed in court documents after one of the men in the melee was arrested on Wednesday.
Police allege Zafaar Khan, 35, is the man in a yellow t-shirt in the shocking vision that showed the aftermath of the altercation on the corner of Mill Rd and Charles St, Liverpool.
Documents tendered to Liverpool Local this week state Khan was driving with his friend Christian Borello on April 17 when they pulled up at a set of lights to verbally argue with another man.
That man, Brendan Jones, allegedly walked up to the passenger side of Khan’s car, pointed a handgun through the window at his passenger before Khan got out of his car and elbowed him in the face.
A police statement of facts says both Khan and Borello, while the alleged gunman was on the ground unconscious, continued to kick him in the head numerous times.
Jones has yet to be charged with any offences, according to police.
Borello then took the firearm and the men fled the scene in the car, police allege.
When officers arrived they saw Jones lying in the gutter in a bloody scene.
Borello attended a local hospital later in the day with a hand injury, accompanied by Khan, the document states.
On Wednesday police allege they located their car with a resealable bag of green vegetable matter Khan’s ID inside.
Police then located Khan and Borello at the nearby Mercure Hotel in Liverpool where they were arrested.
Khan has been charged with affray and not disclosing a driver’s details to police but was granted bail on Thursday when his lawyer Javid Faiz argued for his release.
Khan has to abide by a raft of conditions which include reporting to police seven days a week, not entering the Mercure Hotel or contact anyone else involved in the case.
Incredible photographs capturing the moment a man disarmed another driver of a gun during a wild suspected road rage incident have been released by police, as they appeal for help to identify those involved.
The Daily Telegraph can reveal details of the incident that occurred near the intersection of Mill Rd and Charles St in Liverpool just before 3pm on Sunday, April 17.
Video obtained by investigators shows what they believe to be a road rage incident involving a man and woman in a white Toyota Corolla, and two men who were travelling in a grey Suzuki Baleno.
At one point it will be alleged the passenger of the Toyota – who is wearing all white – produced a firearm.
Police say the two men in the Suzuki – who can be seen in the video wearing a blue singlet and a yellow t-shirt – were able to take the gun from the other man, with the images capturing the moments immediately after they had disarmed him.
A witness to the incident called police and Strike Force Warrawillan was initiated, with detectives from Liverpool City leading the investigation.
Passers-by told police the Suzuki was last seen travelling on Charles St, before turning right onto Atkinson St.
Inquiries by officers discovered the Suzuki was a hire vehicle and within hours it had been tracked to a car park at a hotel on Hoxton Park Rd in Prestons, where it was seized by investigators.
The two people in the Toyota were also last seen on Charles St, before driving towards nearby Short St.
Liverpool City Crime Manager, Detective Inspector Tim Liddiard, described the incident as “brazen” and urged anyone with information to get in contact with investigators.
“Police have no tolerance for acts of violence such as this, it was a brazen incident that took place in the daylight, in a highly populated area,” Det Insp Liddiard said.
“We encourage anyone in the community who may recognise those involved to contact Crime Stoppers, or Liverpool Detectives.”
One of the men from the Suzuki, who could be seen holding the gun moments after disarming the passenger of the other car, is described as having a partly shaved head and wearing a blue basketball singlet, dark pants and light-coloured sneakers.
The second man from the Suzuki is described as wearing a yellow-coloured t-shirt, with light pants and black sneakers.
A third man involved is described as wearing a white hooded jumper with shorts and white shoes.
The woman who can be seen in the footage is described as having long brown hair and wearing a light-coloured jumper, white long pants and white sneakers.
There is no suggestion of wrongdoing on her part.
