A fourth man has been charged over his alleged involvement in supplying cars used in the killing of Sydney underworld enforcer Mahmoud “Brownie” Ahmad.
Jamal Salameh, 29, was arrested at Canterbury on Wednesday morning after a seven-month investigation by NSW Police investigators attached to Strike Force Betta and Task force Erebus.
Police allege Salameh was involved in the supplying of cars used in the killing of Ahmad earlier this year.
Ahmad, a longtime gangland figure and known stand over man, was gunned down as he left the home of a friend on Narelle Cres at Greenacre about 9.30pm on Wednesday, April 27.
Police officers from the Raptor Squad who were carrying out patrols nearby were quickly on the scene and performed CPR on a man they had many dealings with until paramedics arrived – but he could not be saved.
Ahmad’s death saw underworld tensions explode and led to the formation of Task force Erebus.
Police have so far charged three men – aged 26, 37 and 49 – over their alleged involvement in Ahmad’s murder and all three remain before the courts.
Officers carried out four search warrants at Canterbury, Riverwood, Lakemba and Roselands from 6.30am on Wednesday.
They seized $60,000 in cash, mobile phones, a CCTV system, documents and other items relevant to their investigation.
Salameh was charged with accessory before the fact to murder, participating in a criminal group, and use false documentation.
He has been refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on Thursday.
