Fire and Rescue NSW free man trapped in garbage truck at Lidcombe

Firefighters worked for over an hour to free a man trapped in a garbage truck after it crashed into a restaurant in Sydney’s west.

A man has been hospitalised after he became trapped when a garbage truck ploughed into a Lidcombe restaurant on Monday morning.

Fire and Rescue NSW worked for over an hour after the man was pinned in the passenger side of the truck on Taylor Street just after 6am.

Firefighters had to saw off the front of the vehicle and move the dashboard to relieve pressure on the trapped man, who suffered injuries to his legs.

The man was conscious and responsive when released, and taken to Liverpool Hospital by NSW Ambulance.

A spokesman for NSW Ambulance said the driver of the truck was also taken to hospital as a precaution. He was not injured.

No traffic delays around the incident have been reported.
