Police said the attack had the hallmarks of another assault on an 18-year-old woman on April 5, who was walking along when an unknown man repeatedly punched her in the face.

The teenager managed to fight off her attacker, but required surgery to her face for multiple injuries.

Relatives of Caldow said they were estranged from him when contacted by The Daily Telegraph.

In July 2021, Caldow pleaded guilty to exceeding the speed limit by more than 45 km/hr, causing a police pursuit by failing to stop, and driving a motor vehicle while disqualified.

The court heard at the time that Caldow was driving his blue Holden Commodore through Goulburn at 11.30pm on April 30 when police attempted to stop him.

Instead of stopping, the court heard Caldow did a U-turn in front of the cops and sped away.

He was then doing 118km/h in a 60km/h residential zone with no headlights on as he sped away.

Caldow was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment with a non-parole period of nine months. He was also disqualified from driving until 2028.

In 2015, Caldow pleaded guilty to mid-range drink driving, operating a motor vehicle without a licence and leading police on a high-speed pursuit.

Goulburn Local Court heard he was clocked in the early hours of New Year’s Day travelling at speeds in excess of 100km/h in residential streets, and recorded a blood alcohol reading three times the legal limit.

Magistrate Geraldine Beattie said he had an appalling driving record, as well as convictions for destroying property, failing to comply with good behaviour bond and robbery.
