Two people have been charged after a western Sydney siege ended after a two-hour standoff with police.

Armed officers swarmed the home on Samarai St in Whalan at 6pm Saturday, with officers having their guns drawn.

Sources said police feared multiple children were inside the home as police negotiators worked to convince the man to leave.

The man was believed to be armed and an exclusion zone was set up at the time.

On Sunday, police said they had been called to the home after reports a man had been detained after an altercation with other occupants of the property who were known to him.

Mt Druitt Police officers spoke with a 25-year-old man who police allege had been threatened with a knife and told to hand over money. During a struggle with a male occupant of the house, the man fell out a window and ran off, police said.

The police operation concluded at 8.30pm and a 41-year-old woman and and 38-year-old man were arrested. Three children were inside the home.

The man and woman were charged with detain person in company with intent to obtain advantage and refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court on Sunday.

The children are in the care of Family and Community services.
