A disgraced Bondi doctor who previously threatened someone with an axe is barred from entering an eastern suburbs social spot after he allegedly breached apprehended domestic violence orders.
John Andrew Balafas, 50, was convicted in 2023 of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, common assault, intimidation and contravening an apprehended violence order.
Court documents said he threatened the victim with an axe and slammed it down on a table. He also punched the victim and smashed a glass on the person’s legs.
He was sentenced to an 18-month community correction order.
In December, 2022, the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal banned Dr Balafas from operating for three years after he was found to have sexually exploited and invaded female patients during medical check-ups.
Balafas has two fresh charges relating to allegedly breaching an ADVO in Coogee on May 12 and September 7, last year.
Court documents do not indicate any details about the alleged breach, however, his bail conditions state he is not to enter the Coogee Bay Pavilion for “any reason whatsoever”.
The bail conditions, which were agreed to in September, also saw a $30,000 surety forfeited divided equally between Balafas and another unnamed acceptable person.
Balafas has pleaded not guilty to the breaches with a hearing set down for March.
